Circuit Diagram – 13 Amps Switch Socket

The common 13 amps switch sockets that we use in our house is made up of a very simple and direct circuit consisting of only three wires, the Live Wire, the Neutral Wire and the Earth Wire. The fact that we might see more than 3 wire terminals when we remove some sockets is simple because the extra wires runs to another switch socket nearby. It is within regulation and safety standard to have 2 switch sockets sharing the same circuit and the same circuit breaker. Looking at the circuit diagram above, three wires, namely the Live, Neutral and Earth [...] Read more »

Multiple Light Points Wiring Circuit Diagram

To wire up multiple light points is nothing any complex than wiring a single light point. A multiple light point’s circuit works exactly the same as a single light point except for the series looping of the live wire and the neutral wire. The fact that we see more than one piece of live wires in a switch, be it one gang or multiple gang is because of this wire loops. It is nothing more than tapping the electrical supply from the nearest switch instead of running a brand new wire to the mains for this purpose. The same goes [...] Read more »

How to Check, Repair a Faulty Florescent Light

One thing to bear in mind is, a new set of florescent light doe not cost much, so before wasting a few hours to fault finding what is wrong with the florescent light, ask yourself if it is worth it. There are 3 main components that makes a florescent light work. The tube, the starter and the ballast or choke. These are the 3 components that works itself to death in all florescent lights. So the first things to check are these three. In all fault finding scenarios, do not think in too complex terms. A florescent light that has [...] Read more »

Florescent Lights.

The most common kind of lighting fixture that almost every household and offices use is the fluorescent light. The fact it is is so widely used is because it is undeniably the most cost saving kind of light fixture that gives the best ambiance in terms of really lighting up an area. The Advantages of Using A Fluorescent Light. The most advantageous aspect is the brightness. The light emitted by the fluorescent is white light as compared to the normal filament bulbs which emits a dull yellow light. Tough it has been argued that this kind of light can be [...] Read more »

Simple Circuit Diagram For A Lighting Point

To install a light point we need a to create a simple circuit. An electrical circuit as mentioned before is just a loop that current travels through continuously non stop. To break this loop we use a switch. The continuous flow of electricity will light up any lights that has been designed to work with the specified amount of current or electrical supply. With reference to the diagram above, run 2 wires from the main switch panel. It would be advisable to use two different color coded wires to easily differentiate where the wire go. In this example we shall [...] Read more »

3 Gang Switch Wire Termination Diagram

I have explained the difference between a 3 gang switch and a 3 way switch. I have also mentioned that a 3 gang switch is actually 3 individual 1 gang switch bundled side by side so as to save space and to make multiple switches lined up on the wall look neater. As such, terminating the wire terminals in a 3 gang switch as very similar to terminating a one gang switch. Refer to the diagram above. If you look at the back portion of a 3 gang switch, you will actually see the 3 individual switches. As mentioned before, [...] Read more »

The Main Switch Panel

For this article I will only be discussing the Main Switch Panel that we see in our homes. Main Switch Panels in factories and multi storey building are very much different as there will be more safety features and other whatnots. The Main switch panel in our homes consist of three core components. The Main Switch, The Main Circuit Breaker and the individual circuit breakers. The Main Switch and the Main Circuit Breaker will not be easily distinguished by a layman with no knowledge of electricity by just looking at it. However you won’t miss it when you have a [...] Read more »

The Ceiling Fan Switch

Many people mix up the ceiling fan’s speed regulator with he ceiling fan’s switch. The fact is the ceiling fan has two items controlling it. First you have a normal switch for switching the fan ON or OFF. Then we have a speed regulator to regulate the fan’s speed. Each is an individual item though they are inter dependant on each other to make the fan run smoothly. The fact that I said both are individual items is because the fan will still be able to run with any one of them. We can forgo the switch and have the [...] Read more »
