Different types of switches are recommended for different type of living environment. Switches comes in different styles, colors and looks. It not only serves as a gadget to switch on the lights, it must also serve as an adornment for the whole surrounding.
The most common type is the single pole switch which we see in our homes. Single pole switches can be bundled to together into 2, 3 or 4 switches within one enclosure. Those with 2 switches bundled together are called 2 gang switch. Those with 3 lined together is called a 3 gang switch.
Other than multiple gang switches, switches are also designed to suit different uses. For example, many corridors of hotels uses the 2 way switch or the 3 way switch. These switches are designed in such a way that lights can be switched on at one end, and the can be switched off at the other even though using 2 different switches located at different places but controlling the same light.
The most convenient and widely used switches are the 2 way switch and the 3 way switch. A 3 way switch also works similarly except you can have another switch in the center location of the corridor so you have 3 switches controlling the same light and all 3 switches works independently though the wiring are interconnected in such a way that all three switches depends on each other in order to word and function properly.
In coming articles, we shall discuss the wrings of the 3 way switchand and2 way switch in further detail. We shall see some wiring diagramsand figure out how it is possible to have 3 different switches controlling the same light and yet they are able to function on its own.
